New Wacom Cintiq Portable and Pressure Sensitive iPad Stylus

Wacom has finally done what many dreamed of for years – they’ve created a truly portable Wacom Cintiq dubbed the Cintiq Companion. The device is a full featured 13″ Full HD tablet, running either Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, or Android 4.2. Naturally the tablet comes with the same high quality display as on the Cintiq 13HD, and features the brilliant Wacom stylus with it’s 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity, tilt sensitivity, and all the usual Intuos features. Sadly, the tablet costs roughly more than an average high-end full computer setup, with the cheapest unit at $1499 US, or in South Africa (counting in grey import margins) about R35 000. While they’re very nice, they’re unfortunately very expensive.

Next up, Wacom has also released a fully pressure sensitive (2048 levels) iPad stylus, with palm rejection support and a staggering 150 hours average battery life. The new pen stylus supports all the top iPad art apps, but sadly it still has an inaccurate fat rubber nib at the end, so it’s more like painting with a pressure sensitive finger than a pressure sensitive pen. Nevertheless, the battery life does endear us toward the device, and we’re keen to give it a shot. Priced at just $99 US or likely, R2500, it seems reasonable (if you live in the US).
